BUCKS Finally starting to warm up Improved shooting a good sign
When the Milwaukee Bucks shot 51.2% in their victory over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night at the Bradley Center, it marked the first time all season they had made at least half of their shots in a game.

"Should we get the pompons out for that?" coach Scott Skiles asked.

OK, so we'll hold off on the parade.

Rather than getting too excited about any single statistical moment, the important thing for the Bucks is to determine how to blend their wide array of individual offensive weapons into a cohesive and potent arsenal.

"It's still a work in progress," guard Michael Redd said. "With me coming back after being gone for so long (with an ankle injury), it kind of threw a monkey wrench into things. We're trying to figure out our (offensive) style now. We made some adjustments and we're still trying to make some adjustments to make it easier for us."

And what would that offensive style be that the Bucks are seeking?

"Basically move the ball and be unselfish and try to put certain guys in positions to be effective," Redd said. "That's what (Skiles) is trying to figure out right now.

"We want to score. We've got scorers so we want to score. We just have to balance it and play defense at the same time. And then when we're playing defense, score the Basketball. So it'll be a challenge for us this year. We have tremendous scorers so we want to score the Basketball. It's just a matter of being in the right position and Coach is figuring it out."

With the emphasis the Bucks have placed on defense, maybe it shouldn't be surprising that the offense has lagged. The Bucks rank 19th in the league in scoring (96.9 points per game), 25th in field-goal percentage (43.6%) and 17th in three-point percentage (35.4%).

Six Bucks - Redd, Richard Jefferson, Charlie Villanueva, Ramon Sessions, Andrew Bogut and Luke Ridnour - are averaging in double figures. All except Bogut have field-goal percentages that are below their career averages.

That, however, does not concern Skiles.

"Guys are kind of playing in a flow that we like," he said. "It's just a matter of knocking (shots) down and the other night (against Indiana) we knocked them down. We have the type of team to be a pretty consistent shooting team. It's just a matter of doing it now on a nightly basis.

"Michael Redd is a good shooter. Richard Jefferson is a good shooter. We have guys that can make shots. I don't think Michael Redd is a 42% shooter. I think as the season goes on we're going to continue (to get better). Charlie V. for a while was floating under 40%. That's not the type of shooter he is. Generally, the veteran players are going to revert back to who they really are."

The Bucks showed what kind of offensive team they would like to be in their 98-83 victory over Miami on Monday.

They shot 45.0%, passed for 21 assists on 36 field goals and spread the wealth. "The ball was moving great," Bogut said. "That's how it should be. Mike got us our lead and did a great job. Then they started concentrating on him more and Richard started getting involved. Charlie V. had a hell of a game. When we have a balanced attack, we're successful. The last couple games, we've been balanced. Each quarter, a different guy gets hot."

Said Skiles, "We haven't had any problems from the very first day of camp playing unselfishly and trying to move the ball. We've had some spacing issues and some execution issues - screening and things like that - but it hasn't been unselfishness or anything like that. It's new players playing together, a new system and that kind of stuff. We feel like we're getting better in all those areas."
