St. Francis - Joe Ingles played with Andrew Bogut last summer when they were teammates for Australia in the 2008 Olympics.
But could they team up again with the Milwaukee Bucks ? The 6-foot-8 Ingles, who played last season with the South Melbourne Dragons in Australia's National Basketball League, is on a whirlwind American tour to showcase his skills. On Thursday, his latest stop was the Cousins Center as he took part in a six-player workout with the Bucks that also featured former University of Wisconsin standout Joe Krabbenhoft.
Ingles worked out for the fifth time in seven days with a National Basketball Association club, one day after showing his stuff for the Detroit Pistons.
"It's been a pretty long two weeks," the 21-year-old Ingles said.
There's more to come for the globetrotting Ingles, who will take part in the NBA draft combine in Chicago next week and also will be in Treviso, Italy, in early June for the Reebok Eurocamp.
He hopes the hard work will pay off in his name being called on draft night on June 25.
"He's a talented kid; I think he's definitely a strong second-round prospect," Bucks director of player personnel Dave Babcock said. "He can shoot it; he can really pass it. He needs to get stronger, but he's interesting."
Ingles tested the draft waters last year but decided to concentrate on making the Australian Olympic roster, and he achieved his goal. He appeared in five games in the Beijing Olympics and averaged 4.8 points as Australia reached the quarterfinals before losing to the U.S.
"It was a great experience, and I played against great players," Ingles said. "I learned a lot, and hopefully I can go to London now (for the 2012 Olympics)."
Ingles matched up against Krabbenhoft in the three vs. three portion of the workout.
"Joe (Krabbenhoft) is the most hard-nosed kid you'll ever have," Babcock said. "He's not an NBA player, and I'm sure he realizes that. But it was great having him in for a workout.
"If he wants to play Basketball for a career, I think he'll have an opportunity. He really knows how to play. He can make open shots, and he will lay some pipe on you. He should be playing football."
Krabbenhoft was working out for his second NBA team, after a session with the Portland Trail Blazers last week.
The 6-7, 220-pound Krabbenhoft has been training at Attack Athletics in Chicago, along with Marquette's Wes Matthews and Dominic James, who worked out for the Bucks on Wednesday.
"I loved the workout," Krabbenhoft said. "I thought I got to show my all-around game. You always leave wishing you would have done better, but that's just the competitor in all of us."
Krabbenhoft said if he isn't drafted on June 25 he will consider playing professionally in Europe.
Also competing in front of Bucks general manager John Hammond, coach Scott Skiles and other team officials were guard Jeremy Pargo of Gonzaga; guard Lester Hudson of Tennessee-Martin; forward Tony Gaffney of Massachusetts; and center Bamba Fall of Southern Methodist.
Krabbenhoft's UW teammate, Marcus Landry, is expected to work out for the Bucks on Friday. Marquette guard Jerel McNeal will work out for the Bucks in June, following the league draft combine in Chicago.
