There are some Bucks' officials who believe rookie guard Jodie Meeks will eventually replace veteran Michael Redd as the team's starting shooting guard. Redd hasn't done anything to squelch those sentiments. Redd, the Bucks' star shooting guard, has spent a lot of time working with and counseling Meeks who, like Redd, was a second-round draft pick. Oftentimes, Redd and Meeks will get together after practice and shoot countless jump shots. "He's taken me under his wing," Meeks said of Redd. "He's helped me a lot. He's always telling me what I need to do to be successful."
One of the things Redd has emphasized to Meeks is staying focused. Redd, who was a star at Ohio State, seldom got off the bench his rookie season with the Bucks. In fact, Redd played in only six games for a grand total of 35 minutes.
Meeks, who was a star at Kentucky, has already played in 16 games with the Bucks, but he fully realizes that once Redd is fully recovered from a sore left knee, his playing time will be reduced significantly.
"As a rookie in this league, there's a lot of ups and downs," Meeks said. "He (Redd) said it can be difficult. It takes time to adjust. He said I needed to stay focused and keep my confidence up and that's what I'm trying to do."
