Brandon Jennings is an extremely confident young man, but he isn't expecting to immediately step right into the Bucks' starting lineup.
Jennings, a 19-year-old point guard whom the Bucks made the 10th overall selection in the NBA draft, fully realizes there are two other experienced and talented point guards -- Luke Ridnour and Ramon Sessions -- already on the team's roster. "No, I don't," Jennings responded when asked if he expected to be handed the starting reins. "I know you have to come in here and earn your spot.
"It's up to me. If I work hard and prove I should start ... we'll see."
Bucks coach Scott Skiles, who has a reputation of not having a lot of patience with inexperienced players -- as Bucks top pick Joe Alexander discovered last season -- isn't promising Jennings a starting spot, much less significant playing time.
Yet, Skiles, who was a point guard during his career, acknowledges that Jennings has an abundance of athletic talent. Jennings, who shunned going to the University of Arizona to play for Lottomatica Virtus Roma in the Italian League, is ultra-quick and possesses a nice array of offensive moves.
"He's very talented," Skiles said. "He's got a very good handle; the ball is on a string. He plays with a certain amount of flair that I know people will like to see. He has good vision on the floor.
"He knows what he's doing out there. When he has the ball in his hands, he has good command of his team. And he can score as well. He's an exciting young talent. I look forward to working with him."
