Milwaukee Bucks Notes, Quotes 2009-09-18

Milwaukee Bucks Notes, Quotes 2009-09-18--The Bucks have 16 players on their roster who have guaranteed contracts. And that doesn't include Bruce Bowen, whom the Bucks acquired over the summer from the Spurs. The Bucks then decided to release Bowen and pay him $2 million instead of keeping him on their roster for $4 million. Shortly after being released, Bowen announced his retirement.

While the Bucks don't report to training camp until Sept. 29, the vast majority of them have been working out at the team's practice facility in St. Francis. Two of the missing players were forward Ersan Ilyasova and guard Roko Ukic, who were playing for Turkey and Croatia, respectively, in the EuroBasket tournament in Poland.

While there has been considerable speculation that top draft choice Brandon Jennings will be the team's starting point guard, Bucks officials have indicated veteran Luke Ridnour will open the season as the starter.

James "Chubby" Wells, the agent for former Bucks guard Ramon Sessions, learned the Bucks wouldn't match a free-agent offer sheet from the Timberwolves from a newspaper reporter and not Bucks officials.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's got to be played out. But I do think anytime you have a lottery pick you hope to get him on the floor and play immediately. It didn't happen last year with Joe Alexander, but Joe was raw. It's different with Brandon Jennings. Brandon Jennings has had a ball in his hands since he was old enough to walk and he also has a year of professional experience in Europe under his belt." -- Bucks general manager John Hammond, on whether he expects this year's lottery pick, point guard Brandon Jennings, to make an immediate impact unlike last year's lottery pick, forward Joe Alexander, who played sparingly.
