Milwaukee Bucks Notes, Quotes 2009-10-29

Milwaukee Bucks Notes, Quotes 2009-10-29--Bucks officials are contemplating whether to pick up the option year on F Joe Alexander's contract. Alexander, a 6-foot-8 second-year player, was the eighth overall pick in last year's NBA draft but had a bitterly disappointing rookie season in which he averaged a paltry 4.7 points. He didn't start a game. Alexander would earn $2.76 million next season.

--Prior to the NBA Draft, ESPN's Jay Bilas noted that Brandon Jennings' jump shot was broken. Bucks officials vehemently disagreed after they made him the 10th overall selection. But Bilas is looking good so far as Jennings has shot the ball poorly during preseason. Through the first five exhibition games, Jennings shot a miserable 28 percent from the field and a feeble 22 percent from three-point range.

MAIN REASON BUCKS CAN WIN: Bucks general manager John Hammond made a concerted effort to shore up the team's depth during the offseason and he seems to have succeeded. Hakim Warrick provides versatility at both forward positions, and Carlos Delfino, another free-agent signee, has flashed signs of being a solid all-around performer. Yet another free-agent signee, Ersan Ilyasova, actually a returnee from two seasons ago, is a terrific perimeter shooter and figures to get ample minutes.

MAIN REASON BUCKS CAN LOSE: The Bucks simply don't have enough certifiable scorers. Oppponents are undoubtedly going to try and shut down their go-to scorer, Michael Redd, meaning Andrew Bogut or Luke Ridnour -- or somebody else -- will have to significantly step up their offensive production.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's going to be a challenge, one of the greatest challenges of my life. Coming back from knee surgery and nurturing a young team ... it's going to be an incredible challenge. It'll be the most challenging season of my career." -- G Michael Redd, on the upcoming season and being the leader of a predominantly young team.
