Jodie Meeks, G, 6-4, Kentucky (second round) -- Bucks general manager John Hammond said the team's scouting department had Meeks ranked considerably higher and never envisioned him falling to them in the second round, the 41st pick overall.

FREE AGENT FOCUS: The Bucks took the first step toward keeping point guard Ramon Sessions by extending him a qualifying offer for approximately $1 million. The QO means the Bucks can match any offer made to Sessions, who becomes a restricted free agent July 1. Bucks general manager John Hammond has repeatedly stated he wants to keep Sessions and Charlie Villanueva, who is also a restricted free agent. Villanueva has told some close friends that he doesn't expect to return to the Bucks.

PLAYER NOTES:

--F Amir Johnson claims he's happy to be with the Bucks. Johnson, whom the Bucks acquired from the Pistons as part of a three-team deal with San Antonio, has been told by Bucks officials that he'll be given every opportunity to start at the power forward position. Bucks general manager John Hammond was Detroit's vice president of basketball operations when the Pistons drafted the 6-foot-11 Johnson in the second round. Johnson has the distinction of being the last high school player drafted.

--G Charlie Bell recently traveled to Las Vegas on a business/social trip. Bell is the Bucks' player rep and took part in NBAPA meetings. But Bell also brought along his wife and children for some fun in the sun.

--F Richard Jefferson fully realized his days with the Bucks were numbered late in the regular season. In fact, before the Bucks' last home game, he summoned a locker room attendant to get him a new pair of socks, adding that "This will be the last time you'll have to do that." Jefferson was traded just days before the draft to the Spurs.
