DRAFT PICKS:
Joe Alexander, F, 6-8, West Virginia -- He was largely unknown to the general public until piling up 22 points and 11 rebounds in an NCAA Tournament upset of Duke last March. Alexander also proved to be surprisingly athletic. His three-quarter court sprint time of 2.99 seconds was second-fastest at the Orlando predraft camp. Luc Mbah a Moute, F, 6-8, UCLA -- This undersized power forward did much of the dirty work while UCLA reached the Final Four for the past three seasons. The Cameroon native averaged 8.8 points and 6.0 rebounds last year as a junior.
BIGGEST NEEDS: After a huge makeover during the off-season, the Bucks' biggest need now is to get on the floor together and learn each others' names.
FREE AGENT FOCUS: The Bucks have no key free agents.
PLAYER NOTES:
--You'll have to excuse Bucks fans if they weren't celebrating Team USA's thumping of Australia in the men's basketball quarterfinals at the Olympics. That's because C Andrew Bogut, the starting center for the Australians, suffered an ankle injury in the game. Alas, there's good news for the Bucks: An MRI performed on their starting center came back negative and he's expected to be at 100 percent for the start of training camp in October.
--It's clear the Bucks aren't 100 percent sold on C Dan Gadzuric, their former first-round pick, as their backup center. The signing of 334-game NBA veteran Francisco Elson shouts that out loud and clear. Interestingly, Gadzuric knows Elson quite well. Not only did both play their college ball in the Pacific-10 Conference, but both were born in the Netherlands.
